"For internet related services this is a very complete landscape survey of all companies involved in 2015 and divided into categories (eventhough its more focused on marketing related tech, but still quite complete)"

Any suggestions or comments on the list of Internet companies?

Any thoughts about which Internet company types shown in the above image should be added to the game's existing list?

I was studying the financial reports of Netflix, a truly digital age company that changed media, and it is consider a content delivery platform/web service/Internet company. And sort of the retail store of truly pure information. Content goods pure digital. This is its 3 major financial reports.

Interesting though, that even with a nearly 7 billion revenue, its net profit income is usually less than 4%, in 2015 even just 2%. But it does spend nearly 10% of the revenue in R&D, about 12% in marketing (like advertising to build brand name in Capitalism basically), and its salary and such less than 6%. You might wonder what happen to the rest? 20% or so is paid to other Internet Businesses (server farm, bandwidth etc), Services (rent, repairments, even call center for customer service), or upstream Real world Business to facilitate its operation (like buying equipments, etc).

But this still leaves more than 50% of "invisible cost" somewhere. It's listed as Amortization and Depreciation, and mostly Amortization of Streaming Content. For someone, without accounting background, this might seems very odd, since no actual money changing hand in this "cost". But essentially it's like an instalment payment to Hollywood or other tv series, movie making studios, where you pay them in one big contract. But due to the nature of "digital contents" losing its attractiveness in streaming so quickly (people would like to watch newer movies, but rarely watch old films from years ago), hence although Netflix paid big buck buying those license from studios, or even pay to make their own series, but the "final product" only stay fresh for a very short time, and quickly lost its "real value" when most people already watched them.

This says a lot about Digital Age Internet companies, not only do they grow quickly, but also they are constantly chasing the fleeting contents, and their services are interconnected very tightly, but also with surprising low profit in the long run, with much less real profit margin than manufacturing, or compare to other service industries. They are essentially trying to be as cheap as possible, and thus able to replace the very lucrative traditional services, or become the services to serve other services. These Internet Service Company consist of surprising low amount of market share in total. Several billions for the entire cloud service industry, considering automobile industry in comparison is more than a trillion. This is no surprising come to think about it, how much a person spend on a transportation vehicle on average a year, but you spend less than $10 a month for netflix subscription, this is less than 0.2% of annual income on average, and not everyone subscribe. This can be said to a lot of other Internet based services as well.

I'll study other backbone type B2B Internet Company next, and hopefully get something interesting insight.

I'm a little surprised to not see BOX under the Cloud category. They're one of the more innovative providers in that segment.

The marketing segment might be due for an overhaul with the digital age DLC. Provided that billions in revenue are generated purely through online ads these days.

I found this survey mainly for online marketing and its associate landscape, so any services not directly facilitate online marketing, probably are not included. (and remember it's going upstream, not downstream, otherwise you'll probably need to include every single businesses that can pay for online market). And further upstream, the less accurate, and most likely only includes a small portion of them in those categories.

Perhaps you can find some survey centered around businesses and companies that facilitate cloud-based storage, or other specific type of cloud services. It's generally impossible to survey them all, we have to start somewhere, and the landscape changing pretty quickly even today. (This survey map is from Jan 2015, probably changed a bit since then)
