Poll: Retain purchased inventory for Livestock farms and factories.

Post by Yimmy »

Factories and livestock farms frequently have multiple products with the same resource requirements. For example, cattle produce frozen beef, milk, and leather with frozen beef being the default option. As soon as a livestock processing or manufacturing link is established, the default/first choice is activated and purchased inventory is provided to the potentially incorrect product. This method is fine when you want to produce the default product. Not so good when you wish to produce a different product. By the time you are able to change the default processing/manufacturing product to your desired product, you have squandered purchased inventory that is purged as soon as the new product is activated. Would it be viable to inject a temporary, time-limited pause or prompt that allows/requires a conscious selection of those common products?

If this is too complex to implement, an alternative option would be to ensure existing, purchased inventory is not lost for common resource products. The manufactured goods would still be lost, but the purchased inventory should be retained and usable.

This is a very good point - it is about time this "mechanic" was solved, its not a great look for the game this far into its evolution. Hard as it may be to solve, having to try and explain these "ism's" to new players doesn't engender hype for the game.

Thank you Saffgee; although I didn't originally think of it in terms of a "flaw" -- more like a suggested improvement -- perhaps it will receive higher priority for implementation if it is presented as an issue. Not necessarily to the level of a bug, but more akin to problematic gameplay..

Typically, when a factory retools to produce a different product that uses the same raw materials, it retains the inventory of materials that are common to both products. In CapLab, that inventory is lost unless the product of choice happens to be the default product. Although I remain hopeful of getting 15-30 votes, the poll isn't getting much traction.

Perhaps your comment will encourage David to indicate whether the existing loss of inventory is by design and unlikely to change.

I'm delighted to inform you that your suggestion for factory production selection has been implemented. It will be available in the upcoming version 10.0.
You can view the details at https://www.capitalism2.com/forum/viewt ... =10&t=9329

On the other hand, in the current version, livestock production actually does not start until you select the production type, as shown in the below screenshot.

Thank you David for the improvement. I have always been impressed with how well you and the development team respond to requests for improvements. Happy holidays
