I tested it but couldn't pull of this trick. I bought land plots and then sold them, resulting in losses instead profits.

The colors of Customer Traffic Overlay didn't change in my testing although I have already bought some 6x6 land plots. If you can send me your save game, it would be helpful.

you have to buy its on town surrounding or inside town,
then sell its and click buy land icon again,
you'll see different
