Public Finance Management

Post by mrbcap »

Most city simulation games focus on city design and provision in the needs of the citizens.
But in CapLab you could focus more on the financial and monetary matters.
Thus the player would be like a secretary of treasury/finance.

Example of a gameplay:
You start the game as a mayor of a city with a huge public debt (almost every country in the world is in debt).
Your duties are:
  • - attract Al companies to invest in your city
    - provide in the needs of your citizens
    - create jobs by attracting Al companies or opening city-owned companies
    - balance your city's budget
    - pay the public debt
    - handle the balance of payment
    - provide unemployment compensation
    - pay old age pension (social security)
    - bailout banks
    - etc.
You could raise money by:
  • - collecting taxes, duties and other fees
    - issuing bonds (the interest could depend on the rating of your city)
    - operating companies just like other Al companies (city-owned companies)
    - printing money as long as you have gold reserve
I wasn't keen on city simulation in CapLab. But I've changed my mind, as I realized that making public finance management(in detail and realistic) the focal point of a city simulation game could be amazing, provided that it is well implemented. To the best of my knowledge, no other simulation game is like this.

i agree fully with you.
This require a full research or a real knowledge of the management in a city hall of different size.
Villages <10 000 inhabitants
cities
S 10K-50K
M 50-250K
L 250K-1M
XL 1M-5M
Mega >5M
because not all can store gold or issue bonds. Some are at municipal levels, other states, regional or federal levels.
This is cleary more complicate than a 5 button screen management. I am interested in it anyway.
