Telecom

In the Digital Age DLC you can set up a telecom to provide Internet services to customers. The number of Internet users in a city is shown on the Digital page of the City report.

If you plan to set up an Internet company, watch that figure closely. Its viability and profitability depend heavily on how many Internet users the city has.

For the Internet population to grow, a city needs telecom providers offering Internet services with adequate bandwidth capacity. That is where your own telecom company comes in.

Building a telecom

Select Digital Age from the Build menu, then Telecom.

Current Internet pricing

The monthly subscription fee the company currently charges customers for its Internet service.

Set the next month’s Internet pricing

Monthly budget for upgrading infrastructure

The number of subscribers your telecom can serve is capped by its infrastructure capacity. Use the slider to set an upgrade budget once most of that capacity is in use.

Customers all want a high quality of Internet access. To judge whether your telecom can deliver it, subtract the utilized capacity from the infrastructure capacity. The headroom left over tells you whether the network can handle heavy traffic at peak hours.
