Radical R&D Unit

A Radical R&D unit is a new type of functional unit you can set up in an R&D Center. It takes a radical approach to product research, aiming for dramatically greater results in a shorter time.

That approach has a price: success is not guaranteed, and a failed project loses your entire investment with nothing to show for it. Use these units alongside traditional R&D units rather than instead of them.

The case for The case against
A successful radical project advances your technology by leaps traditional R&D cannot reach. Where product differentiation is hard to come by, being a distinctive technology leader is a major competitive advantage. A radical project is far less predictable than a traditional one, and failure is commonplace.

How the success rate works

The success rate depends on how aggressive the project is. The harder it reaches for a result, the less likely it is to get there:

200% 50%
400% 25%
