The “Industry Expertise Only” Option

This option replaces general business skills with deep specialization. Enable it and a person no longer has broad abilities such as retailing or manufacturing — instead they specialize in a single product class.

Turning it on

Open the New Game Settings menu, go to the Experimental DLC page, and select the New Game Rules tab.

What expertise does

Industry expertise reaches further than research. It improves the R&D units for that product class and the manufacturing, purchasing and sales units working on the same class.

For a firm managed by a person with industry expertise:

Area Effect
R&D performance Each expertise point in a product class raises it by 1%.
Upgrading a manufacturing unit Upgrading to a higher-level technology within that product class leaves the unit’s level unchanged — no level is lost to the upgrade.
Manufacturing, purchasing and sales units Units focused on that product class run at higher levels.

Example. A person with industry expertise in the Computer product class raises the unit levels of every manufacturing, purchasing and sales unit tied to computer products — a strong competitive edge in both producing and selling them.
