Product Class Expertise
In the game, both the player character and AI-controlled individuals may possess expertise in specific product classes. This expertise provides the following strategic advantages when managing a company:
1) Improved R&D Effectiveness: A person’s expertise in a product class boosts the research and development performance of technologies within that class by 1% per expertise point.
2) Maintained Manufacturing Levels: When applying higher-level technology to an existing manufacturing unit producing products in the expertise product class, the unit’s level remains unaffected. (In the original Capitalism 2, upgrading technology would downgrade the manufacturing unit’s level.)

In the original Capitalism 2, long-running games (e.g., 80+ years) often resulted in a single corporation dominating most markets. However, the introduction of product class expertise makes it significantly harder for one corporation to monopolize multiple markets. Companies led by CEOs with expertise in specific product classes will pose a much stronger challenge, creating a more competitive landscape.
From the player’s perspective, hiring managers such as COOs with strong expertise in relevant product classes becomes a key strategic decision. This feature shifts the dynamics of the game, providing new challenges and opportunities for players to explore.
For those who prefer the classic gameplay style, this feature can be disabled in the new game settings by setting the “Competitor Expertise Level” to None.
Knowledge Points
You will earn Knowledge Points as a reward for achieving specific goals in the game. These Knowledge Points can then be used to enhance your management executives’ expertise.
Knowledge Points Settings
On the game settings menu, a new section labeled “Goal Rewards” can be found under the “Goals” tab. This page offers several customization options for Knowledge Points.
1. You now have the ability to turn off Knowledge Points entirely.
2. There is an option to use Knowledge Points to enhance the Expertise of your management team members. If this is disabled, then you can only use Knowledge Points to boost the Expertise of your player character.
3. You can set the initial amount of Knowledge Points at the beginning of a game.
4. The number of Knowledge Points earned upon achieving goals can be modified to your preference.
Enhancing Expertise Points
You have the ability to allocate Knowledge Points towards boosting the expertise of your player character. By investing your earned Knowledge Points, you can enhance your character’s skills and abilities, providing an advantage in various aspects of gameplay. This feature allows you to customize and develop your player character according to your preferred playstyle and strategies.
When the option “Can Increase Expertise of Management Staff” is enabled, you can directly enhance the capabilities of their leadership team, aligning managerial strengths more closely with the company’s strategic needs and goals.
