Logistics Company

The Logistics Company in the Service Industry DLC is deliberately simple to run — much like a telecom or media company — and gives you a steady revenue stream that grows with everything else you own.

That is the point of it: as your corporate group expands, freight capacity expands with it, and the logistics network becomes more valuable the more of your own business it carries.

Transport routes

You run both local routes within a city and city-to-city routes between them. In a four-city game that means four local routes plus the network connecting them.

Your own group ships with you

Companies in the same corporate group always prefer your logistics company. Any subsidiary uses it automatically for distribution — unless it runs one of its own. The larger the group, the more traffic the logistics company carries without you doing anything.

Budget for freight capacity

Allocating budget to expand freight capacity on each route

Each route takes its own budget for capacity expansion. With many routes that is a lot of micromanagement, so an auto-setting feature is built in — and unlike elsewhere in the game it does not require hiring a COO.

Button What it does
[Auto] Toggles auto-setting on the current route.
[All] Enables it on every route.
[None] Disables it on every route.

Staff training and skill level

A monthly training budget raises the skill level of the employees serving a route, on a scale of 1 to 9. Higher skill means better service quality, and better service attracts more business. The same auto-setting option applies here.

How AI companies choose a carrier

An AI company without its own logistics company uses a third party. Which one it picks depends on the skill level of the staff on the route and whether that route has capacity available when the service is needed.

Operating costs and the IT system

Cost type When you pay it
Fixed costs Based on freight capacity, whether it is used or not.
Variable costs Only when that capacity is actually being used.

Investing in the logistics company's IT system

Invest in the IT system. Fully developed, it saves up to 40% of fixed operating costs and 20% of variable costs.

One per corporation

A single logistics company handles everything for the group, so there is no reason to build more — and the game does not let you.

Settings

Setting What it does
AI tendency to establish logistics companies How likely AI companies are to build their own, which shapes how competitive the market is.
Freight cost modifiers Alters freight costs across the board. Higher costs make logistics companies more profitable — and everyone who depends on them more expensive to run.

Synergy with e-commerce

An e-commerce firm using the corporation's own logistics company for deliveries

With the Digital Age DLC you can expand the freight capacity dedicated to e-commerce deliveries, and your e-commerce firm automatically relies on your own logistics company for all of them.

That turns rising delivery demand into logistics revenue, and the two businesses grow each other: the bigger the e-commerce operation, the bigger the network it needs.
